Another White House staffer resigned on Friday before the dust settles on Rob Porter’s resignation on Wednesday. He stepped down amid the gravity of allegations from two ex-wives. They came forward to report Porter for domestic abuse. The latest staffer to resign is White House speechwriter David Sorensen after his ex-wife stated that he was abusive. David resigned but refuted the allegations as false.
This week may have been all about staff scandal resignations but an overall overview shows that Trump has also fired quite a number of White House employees. Of late, Republicans and Trump’s administration have targeted the Justice Department and the FBI following their dismay with how the two agencies carried out their investigations into the Russian Probe. They are accused of targeting the President hence the reasons for some Justice Department staffers being fired and repositioned.
The Scandals at the White House
Just hours after Donald Trump’s comments about his former staff secretary, David resigned. Trump made colorful remarks about Porter. The President stated that his administration certainly wishes Porter well asserting that even though he was facing hard times, he has a brighter future ahead of him. Trump added that Porter did a good job and hoped that he would have a wonderful career ahead of him. The President concluded by asking Americans to remember that Porter said he was innocent.
Jessica Corbett, Sorensen’s ex-wife, told the Washington Post of her former husband’s abusive nature. She claimed that while still married, Davis ran over her foot with a car, extinguished a cigarette on her hand, threw her against a wall and grabbed her by her hair. She added that she could not report the incidents as her husband by then was well connected to law enforcement.
Incites from the Democratic Divide
The Democratic party is expected to be very vocal of the transgressions happening at the White House especially after the president shot down the Democratic memo by not agreeing to its release. Democrats have accused the chief of staff, John Kelly, and director of communication, Hope Hicks of being aware of the allegations against Porter and still considered keeping him on.
Fueling more into the unveiled scandals, John and the President praised Porter for his service, a fact that Democrat Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez slammed against the White House for harboring a misogynistic culture. Democratic Representative Ann McLane Kuster claimed that it is alarming that Porter remained in an influential position amid such allegations.
