Russia has called the US move to deploy additional troops to Eastern Europe “destructive” amid growing tensions over the Ukraine issue. Today, Moscow alleges that such a decision by the US has reduced the chances of a political solution to the ongoing tensions over the Ukraine issue. Earlier, in a briefing on Wednesday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby announced that an additional 3,000 troops were being deployed in Eastern Europe.
He said 2,000 U.S. troops would be sent to Germany and Poland from a U.S. military base in North Carolina. One thousand US troops already stationed in Germany will go to Romania.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the deployment of additional US troops to Eastern Europe was a reflection of the United States’ commitment to the NATO alliance.
The Biden administration has said it will send troops to the Ukraine border, which is surrounded by about 100,000 Russian troops. Ukraine accuses Moscow of attacking the country at any time. However, Moscow has denied the allegations.
The tensions come eight years after Russia annexed Ukraine’s southern Crimean peninsula and backed rebels in the eastern Donbas region.
