After an extensive assessment, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has affirmed that the interpretation which was interpreted by ex-president Donald Trump on radioactive waste is based on their intensity of radioactivity rather than how it is produced.

This affirmation by the administration of Joe Biden came after receiving various opposition and supporting letters from different groups which leads to to the notice in the Federal Register making clear where the administration stood.

The DOE mentioned that the decision of disposal of waste is based on the radioactivity characteristics rather than how it became radioactive. Numerous scientific data has proven this interpretation. They also mentioned that this decision will allow the energy department to focus on other high-priority projects. For a long time, those radioactive wastes cannot be stored within the premises of DOE which may decrease safety for workers and the environment.

The Department was shifting the waste to Idaho, Washington until a series of lawsuits between the state and the federal government led to a settlement agreement. This interpretation and the decision of disposal were analyzed and interpreted by the administration of Donal Trump administration during his tenure.
