After the suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror attacks on the family quarters of Sunhuwan military station in Jammu in early hours of Saturday, the anti-terror operations have entered in their second day. In the attack, three terrorists and two soldiers were killed. DGP of Police, SP Vaid said that the operation is still going on and there has been an intercept which suggests that the terrorists involved in the attack were from JeM group.
The fourth terrorist has also been gunned down by the security forces who was hiding in the Sunjwan army camp. Sources said that around 5 soldiers were also killed in the ongoing action and in addition to that, a civilian causality has also been reported. Security has been heightened and a high alert has been sounded in Jammu. The army said that operation will continue as long as the terrorists are either captured or killed.
The attack on the Sunhuwan Army camp which has claimed lives of five army Jawans and one civilian is called as the worst attack on the military since Uri attacks in 2016 in which 19 Jawans were martyred. More than 24 hours have passed since the terrorists wearing army combat uniform stormed the Army base and started shooting and the operation is still going on. A report said that more than eleven people have been injured and three terrorists have been killed since the operations started last evening. It is suspected that at least two or three more terrorists are still stationed inside the army base. To review the anti-terror operations in Army Chief Bipin Rawat reached Jammu. The schools have been closed and Jammu has been on high alert. A woman was killed on Saturday night when Pakistani Rangers opened fire violating ceasefire along the LoC in Rajouri district of Kashmir.
While army forces were fighting with the terrorists there has been a simultaneous ceasefire in the Nowshera and Rajouri sectors in Kashmir on Saturday. Praveen Akhtar of Pukhrani has been killed when Pakistani Rangers opened fired along LoC violating the ceasefire agreement once again.
Terrorists are holed up inside the army base and they are firing intermittent rounds from the residential quarters inside the camp. The army said that it believed the number of a terrorist entering the cap was 4 but it has not been confirmed yet.
The army has been trying to neutralize the terrorist by tightening the cordon, however as they were near the residential quarters where the families of army men are staying, they were cautious in their approach.
The Para Special Forces and Troops from 6 Mahar Regiment joined hands in the operation to eliminate the terrorists. According to the army sources the terrorists were carrying AK-56 assault rifles and wearing combat dress to gain entry into the army station. They were challenged at the entry gate by the Jawans deployed there and this early detection has enabled troops to corner the terrorists in one corner of the military station in three-story residential quarters of Jawans and JCOs.
