The long-term conflict between India and Pakistan continues over territories in Jammu and Kashmir region. India and Pakistan have fought two three wars since India’s partition exercise in 1947. The three wars fought over Kashmir; Indo-Pakistani wars of 1947 and 1965 and the 1999 Kargil war has not sought any solution to the problem. India asserts the whole of Kashmir and Jammu and as of 2010 controls Jammu, Kashmir valley, Siachen Glacier and Ladakh – 47% of the region. Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are administered by Pakistan which constitutes 37% of the region.
Lord Nazir leads Botched Protests in London
As India celebrated its Republic Day yesterday, Lord Nazir a led protest in London outside the Indian embassy. Lord Nazir is a member of the British House of Lords after being appointed in 1998 with the then Prime Minister Tony Blaire. Nazir planned to mark India’s 69th Republic Day celebrations by diminishing it with a demonstration. He assembled a small group of pro-Pakistani politicians and supporters to meet outside the Indian High Commission armed with placards and hoardings. Nazir and supporters accuse India of illegally occupying Jammu and Kashmir region.
Unexpected by Lord, Nazir and team, their efforts to mount a protest in front of the embassy were thwarted by a larger number of Indians. He did not expect to face a wave of Indians who were out to mar his unsupported claims and detestable demands.
The Scandalous Lord Nazir
Lord Nazir was born in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He and his supporters named their attempted protest ‘Black Day’ almost to discredit the meaning of Republic Day. The Indian anti-protestors were also armed with placards and hoardings. Nazir’s supporters were overpowered by echoes of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram calls. The placards they held underlined India’s commitment to peace. Indian counter- Protestants question Nazir’s objectivity and candidness towards the British Government given the fact that he was openly displaying Pakistan’s interests. He was accused of making a mockery of the same British Government.
Lord Nazir is pegged as a controversial figure because he has been in the center of several scandals in Britain. At one point, he claimed that he could offer a bounty on former US President Barak Obama if the US offers a bounty to Hafiz Saeed, the terrorist. In a different scenario, he discredited a Taliban attempt on Nobel Laureate’s Malala Yousafzai’s life saying that it was carried out by proxies close to Pakistani establishment. When the pressure was mounted on him to produce proof on the allegation he admitted he had none.
The Indian counter-Protestors implied and solidified the unity that President Kovind and Prime Minister Modi are preaching lately.
