US President Joe Biden will travel to New York on Thursday to highlight his administration’s new efforts against firearms violence. The White House says the initiative includes efforts by states to crack down on firearms trafficking. For example, weapons sold in the southeast of the country were later used to commit crimes in New York.

The Biden administration has launched a program to better investigate and prosecute those who use homemade firearms. Such firearms, known as ghost guns, do not have a serial number.

Emphasis is also being placed on bringing those who sell guns illegally under the law. Local and state law enforcement agencies and the judiciary will work together to identify and address the causes of crime in the regions.

During the visit, Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland will attend an intergovernmental meeting on firearms violence with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and State Governor Kathy Hakul. They will talk to local leaders about what the Kanya community can do to help prevent crime.
