Top Biden administration officials said that the United States has no plans to deploy missiles in Ukraine. For this reason, they hope that the forthcoming meeting with Russia will make progress. Russia has always viewed the deployment of troops and missiles in Ukraine as a key security issue.

Russia and the United States are set to hold talks on European security on Monday (January 10th). At the meeting, the United States will discuss with Russia the deployment of missiles in Europe and the conduct of military exercises. The Washington Post quoted unnamed sources as saying.

U.S. officials say progress is possible only if Russia takes similar action. U.S. officials said that the United States is not taking part in the meeting out of optimism but in the light of reality.

Meanwhile, US sources have said that the number of US troops stationed in Europe will not be discussed at the upcoming meeting. They have repeatedly said that the United States has no plans to discuss the issue with Russia and that it will not even discuss Ukraine’s accession to the NATO alliance.

U.S. officials say they sincerely want to discuss security in Europe with Russia. At the same time, the US government and its Western allies want Moscow to address security concerns in Europe.
