RBI has made an announcement that it is going to issue chocolate brown colored Rs 10 denomination banknotes in the new Mahatma Gandhi Series. The notes will bear the signature of Governor of RBI, Dr. Urjit R. Patel. The central bank in an official statement confirmed that the new Rs. 10 notes in the Mahatma Gandhi series will bear the signature of Dr. Urjit Patel. The new chocolate brown colored notes will have the motif of the Sun Temple and the Konark on the reverse side, depicting India’s rich cultural heritage. Reserve Bank of India further said that the base color is chocolate brown and the notes will have other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall color scheme both at the front and reverse site.

The main difference between the new and old Rs 10 notes will be that the new notes will have the motif of the Konark Sun Temple on the reverse side. However, the existing ten rupee carries the image of the fauna of the country- elephant, tiger, and rhinoceros.

“The new notes will be shortly put out bearing the signature of the current governor, Dr. Urjit Patel” RBI said. The note has geometric patterns aligning with the overall color scheme and it also has other designs, both at obverse and reverse. The existing Rs 10 denomination banknotes issued by RBI will continue existing as legal tender.

The new note has some other unique features, a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the center, a see-through register with numeral 10 and the denominational numeral 10 written in Devanagari script. The new note in the Mahatma Gandhi series will continue to have windowed demetallized security thread with inscriptions “Bharat” written in Devnagri Script.

The dimension of the new chocolate brown colored Rs. 10 banknotes will be 63 mm x 123 mm. The new Rs. 10 notes will also have a see-through register on the front sides with denominational numeral 10. The denominational numeral 10 will be inscribed on the front of the note in the Devanagari script. The front sides will bear a portrait of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi at the center. Micro letters ‘India”, ‘RBI’, ‘Bharat (printed in Devnagri), ‘10’ will also be printed on the obverse side of the note. The front sides will bear a windowed demetallized security thread with inscriptions ‘Bharat’ and ‘RBI’. Guarantee Clause, Governor Dr. Urjit Patel’s signature with Promise Clause and the Reserve Bank of India emblem will be printed towards the right of Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait, said the central bank.

On the right side of the front side, the Ashoka Pillar emblem will be inscribed. The front side will also have electrotype (numeral 10) watermarks, besides Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait. The front sides will have a number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side of the new Rs. 10 denomination note. The year of printing of the notes will be inscribed towards the left on the back sides of the new Rs. 10 notes. The reverse sides of the new Rs. 10 notes will have a language panel, motif of the Sun Temple and the Konark, and the denominational numeral 10 written in Devnagari script.
