India has so far maintained a neutral stance on the Russia-Ukraine war. Meanwhile, Russia praised India for abstaining from voting in the UN Security Council. However, after Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India issued a completely anti-war statement. New Delhi even offered to help restore peace.

Zelensky called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday afternoon, asking for “political help”. He requested to work together to stop the war. New Delhi issued a statement after Zelensky’s phone call to PM Modi. In a statement it has been said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the loss of life and property in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Prime Minister has once again called for a quick end to violence and a settlement at the negotiating table. He even offered to help restore peace.”

In fact, even when abstaining from voting in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India questioned peace. TS Tirumurthi, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, argued that “India is concerned about the current situation in Ukraine.” We urge all measures to be taken now to stop the violence and hostility.
