President Donald Trump has seen the completion of his first year in office with an approval rating of 39 percent from the American people. As he celebrates his first anniversary as president of the United States, he faces approval numbers that are slightly appalling. This is according to NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll. These recent poll results have been marked as the lowest ones in this poll’s history for any president ending his first year.

According to the poll results, 57 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance.  This is inclusive of the 51% who strongly disapprove of his job performance. This is in comparison to 26% of people who strongly approve the president’s performance during his first year in office.

Who are President Trump supporters?

According to the poll, 46% of men, 45% of whites and 4% of seniors support feel that Trump is doing a great job.  This is versus 35 percent of those who are aged 18-34, 33% of women, 8% of African-Americans and 26% of Latinos who also approve of the president’s performance.

On the basis of party, 78% of Republicans approve of Trump’s performance in office so far. This is compared to 8% of Democrats and 33% of independents who also support the president’s performance on the job.

When Americans were asked what word would best describe how they felt about Trump’s first year as president of the U.S., the topmost responses were: “disgusted” (38 percent), “scared” (24 percent), “hopeful” (23 percent), “proud” (12 percent) and “angry” (11 percent). Other people commented that Trump does not represent the values of the country he leads.

President Trump’s performance in comparison to former U.S presidents’

President Trump’s approval rating as conducted by NBC News/ Wall Street Journal has dropped from last month’s 41% to 39%. His overall approval rating by NBC/WSJ poll is the lower compared to Barack Obama’s (50 percent), Bill Clinton’s (60 percent), and George W. Bush’s (82 percent) as conducted at the same point in their presidencies. The survey was conducted from January 13th to 17th. This was after the controversy over the president’s impious words about immigration from selected countries, and during the probability of a threatening partial government shutdown. The polls closed just before the president’s first anniversary in office on Saturday 20th, January.
