Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated that voting will take place only after the delimitation of Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. If the situation there becomes normal, the status of the state will also be restored, said Shah.

Today, Shah released India’s first ‘District Good Governance Index’. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Jammu & Kashmir is at the top of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s list of priorities. Efforts are being made at various levels for development there.

The Home Minister said, “The work of rearranging the boundaries of the seats has started. The assembly will vote once he is done. Many are saying a lot. But I promised in Parliament that Jammu and Kashmir would be given back the status of a state. If the situation is normal, we will do it.” Shah said, “Development of Jammu and Kashmir is possible only through democracy. Democracy has reached the grassroots level since the introduction of the Panchayati Raj system. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there.”

According to the Home Minister, democracy requires peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir not to set foot on the path of unrest at the instigation of vested interests.
