US President Joe Biden is expected to visit Japan in mid-May to discuss regional security, the issues related to China and North Korea. Japan has begun preparations for its possible summit meeting. This information was given by the Yomiuri newspaper on Tuesday quoting many government sources.

The news agency quoted them as saying that this would be President Joe Biden’s first visit as president. The meeting will be coordinated with a meeting between the leaders of Japan, India, Australia, and the United States.

The quad consists of four countries. They are supposed to have a dialogue on security. Japan’s chief secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a news conference that no specific date had been set for Biden’s visit.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida came to power in Japan last year. Biden first had a detailed discussion with him two weeks ago. They agreed to increase cooperation under economic pressure and security concerns. Security concerns include China, North Korea’s missiles, and Russia’s threat to Ukraine.

Joe Biden has accepted Fumio Kishida’s visit to Japan. A senior U.S. administration official later said the visit could take place in late spring. South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s term ends in May. After that, the country is going to get a new president. Biden could visit South Korea at that time.
