In a stance to defend the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), former FBI Director James Comey took to Twitter and fired at Trump and Republican Congressional leaders. He stated that all Americans should appreciate the FBI for speaking up. He wished all American leaders would also do so. Comey made his statement after learning that the controversial House Intelligence Committee memo is set to be released after the FBI’s advisement against it.

The Justice Department concurred to the FBI’s directive stating that the memo could comprise of information that will threaten America’s national security. It is also likely to mislead the public and therefore should not to be released by Trump or Congress.

Democrats sidelined the move to vote and release the memo as a Republican strategy to take away focus from the ongoing investigations into finding out any links between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaigns and Russia.

James Comey’s Sentiments

Congressional Republicans and the president have mounted attacks against the Bureau’s investigations into probable links between Trump’s campaigns in 2016 and Russia. Its primary objective is to uncover whether such links would have influenced the president to win the elections. The basis for the reason to declassify and publish the memo comes from suspicions that the memo contains information proving the Bureau’s improper use of surveillance.

Comey urged his colleagues to remain strong and take heart. He encouraged them by saying that the American history shows that in the long term, with the condition that good people stand up to them, “weasels and liars” never hold office.

He concluded that schools or streets were never named for Joe McCarthy.  Joseph Raymond McCarthy was famous for conducting hearings in the 1950s aimed at rooting out Communists in the United States government.

Comey’s Personal Feelings about Trump

After James was fired in May 2017, he has made his opinions about Trump openly. He tells friends and associates about his troubling interactions with the president. Comey also authorized friends to share with journalists details from a memo he a authored documenting the same. For instance, he documented a conversation he held with Trump in the Oval Office. Trump was encouraging him to drop investigations into Michael Flynn, the former national security advisor.

Comey used the word “weasels” in September 2016 while at a congressional hearing defending the FBI’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe.
