President of Iran Hassan Rouhani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting in which the major issues like defense, trade, and security were discussed. The leaders talked about the energy sector and investment and finance sector. According to experts, these talks are necessary to improve the relationship between two countries as both will be benefited from these productive talks. The regional issues were also discussed and further plans were made.
The guest President is on his three-day visit to India and a meeting had been scheduled on Saturday with President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi. Hassan Rouhani was greeted with a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan after he reached Delhi. He will discuss the issues of mutual interest and the foreign relationship between both countries.
After both contingents held their meeting, few things have come out that Iran is now willing to export oil and natural gas to India and it is also ready to lessen the visa process to make the travel between two countries easier. In a statement, President Hassan Rouhani said that he believed in the coming years, Asia will emerge as the leading continent in the world and Iran and India will play a major role in boosting the economy and improving the standard of living. This meeting was important for India because Iran has now sanctioned the Chabahar port will be built jointly and it will make India’s trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian region easy as Pakistan does not allow Indian cargo ships to use its ports.
In the press conference before the meeting, President Hassan Rouhani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly believed in having a good relationship with India as it will help in the development of both countries. Iran is now willing to share the vast resources of natural gas and oil with India. While pointing to the history, President Rouhani said that both countries had a rich history of trade exchange and he wants to revive it.
The President of Iran landed in Hyderabad where he went for a visit to the tombs of Qutub Rulers in Golconda. In Hyderabad, he met with students, Muslim intellectuals and other important authorities of the city. Iran has been always a large supplier of India’s oil and natural gas reserve and India has exported various other merchandise to Iran in past as well. The traditional trade exchange has included oil and other economic and commercial merchandise.
President Rouhani in a conference after the bilateral talks issued a joint statement saying that he has envisioned building of Chabahar port with help of India. He emphasized the need for economic and commercial exchanges as it will help in the development of both countries. The main focus of the meeting, however, was on the nine-agreements and Chabahar port. The port has been deemed of much importance as it will boost the economy of both the countries. Other sectors like renewable energy, petroleum products and oil and gas sector have also been discussed between two leaders.
