The Narendra Modi government has taken steps to change the Indian Penal Code and the Evidence Act, which are more than 150 years old. The Center claims that this change is being considered in line with the times. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Chief Justices of the High Courts of all the states, Chief Ministers, and MPs of all the states seeking necessary suggestions and suggestions for changing those interrelated laws.

The letter was sent by the central government to find out what kind of changes are needed in the Indian penal code, mainly by those involved in the administration and the judiciary.

Although some changes have been made in the Indian Penal Code (180) made by the British over time, the demand for its overall reform has been rising for a long time. Amit Shah wrote in his letter, ‘The experience of seven decades of Indian democracy suggests that a comprehensive review of the existing criminal law is required.

In order to keep pace with the present times, changes are required in the Indian Penal Code, Evidence Act (182), and Criminal Penal Code (1973). The center wants to take steps to build a people-oriented legal framework in this regard.
