Japan has expressed surprise at the way the United States has remained silent, even after the war, except the financial sanctions, despite its long-standing promise of military aid to Ukraine. The former Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe has raised the issue of Taiwan and directly questioned the US.
He mentioned that even if China took the initiative to occupy Taiwan, as Russia has done on Ukraine, would America remain so indifferent? Mr. Shinzo demanded a clear answer about USA’s position in this regard. He also called for a change in Japan’s nuclear policy.
Taiwan has long been considered by China as an isolated province. In recent times, Mr. Xi Jinping has directly demanded China’s sovereignty over Taiwan, the democratic country. The USA has also promised military protection to this country. But if China really attacks, will it not be forced to fight alone like Ukraine? That question came up in Shinzo’s throat.
The former Japanese prime minister said an armed Chinese attack on Taiwan could pose a serious threat to Japan as well. According to the agreement, the United States is obliged to support Taiwan’s defense. But countries like Japan and Taiwan are no longer comfortable with the USA’s silence on helping Ukraine! Informed sources say there are enough reasons for Japan’s concern.
