The hijab debate is creating tension in colleges in Karnataka every day. College authorities are struggling to stop. Chief Minister Basbaraj Bommai has ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in the state for three days from Tuesday. A case has also been filed in the Karnataka High Court over the matter. That hearing is on Tuesday. The judge also ordered a hearing on Wednesday.

Just before the court hearing began, the chief minister tweeted and ordered the school college to be closed for three days. In that tweet, he appealed to the school and college Padua to keep the peace.

Protests over the hijab issue started a month ago from Government Girls PU College in Udupi. The college authorities did not allow six students to enter the class wearing hijab. From there, the fire of protest gradually spread to other colleges.

Pro-Hindu groups in Udupi and Chikkamagalur have been protesting against the entry of Muslim girls into the college wearing hijab. A group of Geruas later tried to enter Padua College. There are also clashes between the two sides in a college. The protests continued on Tuesday.

The government is quite concerned about where the situation has gone. The government has also set up an expert committee to look into the matter. Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra has said that neither hijab nor gerua should be worn in school-college.
