U.S. President Joe Biden promoted Indian-American Gautam Raghavan to the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, making him the first Indian-American to take office. In a statement, Biden said that he was delighted that Gautam Raghavan, who has worked alongside Cathy from the very first day, will take over as PPO’s new director.
Raghavan was born in India, schooled in Seattle, and graduated from Stanford University as a first-generation immigrant. He edited West Wingers: Stories from the Obama White House’s Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators.
Raghavan has been the president’s second assistant and associate director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel since January 20, 2020. Previously, he was the Biden-Harris Transition Team’s first employee, serving as deputy head of Presidential Appointments.
Raghavan worked as the chief of staff to U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, the Seat of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and counseled organizations dedicated to advancing civil rights and social justice, including the Biden Foundation and the Gill Foundation, according to the White House.
The success of the Indian government’s diplomacy with the American government has paid rich dividends. Now we see many Indian Americans elevated to high posts in the U.S. government!
