Last week, Tamil Actor spoke with his fans regarding his political career. Fans, who had gathered at a meeting with their hero Rajinikanth erupted in joy when he asked them to prepare for “war”, taking it as a green signal that he will join politics. But today, the picture is completely different. Members of a fringe Tamil group expressed their anger and burnt an effigy of the actor, Mr. Rajinikanth, opposing his entry into Indian politics. With the ‘Tamizhar Munnetra Padai’ planning to picket his house where security was stepped up.
Rajinikanth’s Kannada origins are also a highlighted point of discussion in Tamil Nadu, with pro-Tamil groups raising the pitch whenever the Cauvery river water sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu escalates. However, last week on Monday, the actor had asserted his Tamilian identity, saying his native place was in a village in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu.
On Monday he told that he had no political ambitions but he will show the door to all “money-minded people”. Mr. Rajinikanth at the meeting with fans had also asked them to prepare the ground for a war, saying that they will have to assemble when the battle was fought.
He roared, sending his fans into the frenzy, “When war comes, certainly they will come to the rescue of their motherland. I have a profession, duty, and work and so do you. Go to your location, do your duty and take care of your vacation. Let us face the war”.
And when he brought up the sensitive topic of his linguistic identity in the meeting, he more or less sounded the war bugle. A man of Maharashtra, originally from Karnataka, Rajinikanth proclaimed himself as a true Tamilian.
But now the situation is completely different. Protesters opposed to the actor’s speculated entry into Indian politics burnt his effigy outside his Poes Garden residence. Some of the protesters, belonging to the fringe group, were detained by police. No sooner did he make this statement, speculation shifted to whether he will float his own party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nitin Gadkari from BJP has stated that the BJP is the appropriate place for him.
The great actor Rajinikanth was born to a Marathi family in Karnataka. His real name is Shivaji Rao Gaikwad. Gadkari’s party colleague Subramanian Swamy has been too happy to point out, that Rajini will be a “disaster” in politics.
Mr. Gadkari said “Swamy Ji has got his own independent opinion. I don’t want to comment on his opinion. But I feel BJP will be an appropriate place for Rajinikanth”.
Tamil fans of Rajinikanth only want to see him as a great actor. As per their opinion, politics always highlights the negativity and Rajinikanth are not appropriate for that. That is why they don’t want to see him as a politician and expressed their anger.
