Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir suggested that the opposition should forget 2019 and start planning for 2024 Lok Sabha election as no leader has the pan-India acceptability to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a series of tweets, Omar Abdullah described the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party as a “tsunami and not a ripple in a pond”. Expressing shock over the trends of votes in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state assembly elections, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Saturday, 11th March said that with such grand victory of the BJP other’s must forget the 2019 elections and start planning for 2024. Abdullah tweeted that the trend in Goa, Punjab, and Manipur certainly suggest that the BJP isn’t unbeatable but a change in strategy is needed from criticism to positive alternate. He also said opposition parties should focus their energies towards finding a positive alternative.

He tweeted “At this rate, we should forget about 2019 election and we should start planning and hoping for 2024”. Omar’s remarks came as BJP cruised towards victory in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand while the Congress was ahead in Punjab and Manipur in the assembly polls.

“I will say it again what I already told that the voter needs to be given an alternative agenda which will reflect our hard work for their betterment is” he said.

On the other hand, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “Instead of blaming and commenting on national politics, state leaders should focus more on their state and its people. Abdullah is our friend, we respect him but he needs to focus more on National Conference and matters of Jammu & Kashmir”. He said, “The way National Conference lost to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it has not been able to form roots again till today. The Congress will help, we had run govt together. It will be better if state leaders, instead of passing comments on national politics, work hard in their respective states and pick the public support there”.

He also said, “It will be better if they pay attention towards understanding the problems of regional people. Of course, it will give them pleasant experiences in future elections. The Congress-NC alliance in Jammu and Kashmir ran the government there for 5 years before PDP and BJP got together.

He said the Congress recognizes its responsibility in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and will stand committed to rebuilding the party strategy and will win people’s hearts.
