Last Saturday, INC President Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Demonetization initiative saying that it has caused unparalleled damage to Indian economy and small and mid-sized industrialists. He said that if he were the Prime Minister, the Demonetization proposal would have been thrown directly in the dustbin. In a remark which surprised everyone, he said that he would have never rolled out the Demonetization proposal if he was in the government.

His said that if he was the Prime Minister and it was his government and someone came with a proposal as devastating as Demonetization, he would have thrown it directly into the dustbin and out of door straight to the junkyard. He said that this is what he thinks should be the treatment if the Demonetization proposal. In his recent visit if Malaysia, he answered a question about how his government would have reacted to the Demonetization proposal and in the response, Mr Gandhi said, “If it was my party in the centre and I was the Prime Minister and somebody would have proposed me a file with demonetisation written on it, I would throw it directly into the dustbin, out of the door and into the junkyard.

The official Twitter handle of Indian National Congress shared a video of its President in which he is saying that the proposal as harmful to common people as Demonetization should have been handled in a way that I have described.  The Congress has always opposed demonetization from the very first day of its inception saying that it is harmful to the common people. This initiative was rolled out on 8th November 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. This moved was aimed at curbing the black money holders by invalidating the currency notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500.
