U.S. President Joe Biden’s immigration policy has been sued in eight U.S. states. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed his 20th lawsuit against the Joe Biden administration. Seven other states have also expressed support for his case.
The lawsuit was filed against the reinstatement of the Central American Juvenile Refugee and Parole Program, known as the Central American Minors Program (CAM). Former President Donald Trump scrapped the policy. The reopening will allow some underage immigrants from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala to enter the United States and keep them on the path to permanent citizenship.
To qualify for CAM, parents or other family members legally residing in the United States must submit evidence on their behalf. In a statement issued Friday, Paxton claimed that there was no basis in federal law for the restoration of CAM.
Paxton writes: “The Biden administration has sown nothing but disaster for our country through its illegal, unconstitutional immigration policy. Biden’s latest round of blatant violations of the law includes his Central American Minors program, which has significantly contributed to forcing many states to accept more immigrants. My associate attorney general and I are suing to stop it.”
On Friday, each state’s attorney generals announced the lawsuit after inspecting the southern border between the United States and Mexico.
