3 Army men have died and seven soldiers were injured in a suicide attack by terrorists on Thursday at an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara. An army captain has also died in the attack. Today, by the afternoon, locals gathered and held protests, throwing stones at security personnel as they demanded the bodies of those terrorists. To control the crowds, the army opens fire at stone throwers during the Anti-Terror Operation in Kupwara in which a 70-year-old civilian man has also died.

Yesterday captain Ayush Yadav, posted at Kupwara of Jammu and Kashmir spoke to his father for the last time. Only a few hours later, he was killed by the terrorists who attacked their unit before dawn and opened fire.

His father Arun Kant Yadav said, “This should not happen to anyone else’s son. How long we will see our children being killed like this”. Captain Yadav’s family has a long tradition of men in the Indian forces. The 25 years old Captain Arun Yadav and two more soldiers were killed in the attack, said to be the biggest since the terrorist attack in Uri last year by the terrorists from Pakistan.

The attack was done by three terrorists, believed to be from Pakistan. Two of the terrorists were shot dead in a four-hour battle and another is missing. Captain Yadav’s father also said that the government policy in Jammu and Kashmir needs to be more firm. Referring to a controversial video of a man tied to the front of a jeep as a human shield against stone throwers, Yadav’s father also said, “You tie a person to a jeep and there is extreme outrage but what about countless soldiers who are dying every day”. He shared that he often told his son Arun to get married. “I used to tell my son, get married before my retirement, and Arun used to say – have you nothing else to talk about?”

Captain Ayush Yadav (25), Junior Commissioned Officer Bhoop Singh Gujjar (46), and Venkat Raman (38) were killed while fighting the terrorists in the operation. The terrorists were sneaked into the army camp at 4.30am this morning. Two of the terrorists were shot and the Army believes a third terrorist is suspected to be injured and. Three AK-47 rifles were recovered from those terrorists after the 4-hour gun-battle.

Sources in the Defence Ministry said that there was a double fence surrounding the camp, which is 10km away from the Line of Control (LOC) and about 20km away from the Kupwara city.  The terrorists breached that fence surrounding the camp and entered through the rear side of the camp, where a firing range is located, and entered the camp premises.

A quick reaction team was rushed to the site and it managed to control the attack and kill two terrorists. Today’s attack comes 2 days after infiltration by terrorists of Pakistan was discussed at a meeting of the Unified Command, which has as members top officers of different security agencies and is headed by the CM.
