On Wednesday, Social activist Anna Hazare blamed his former protégé and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s quest for power behind the Aam Aadmi Partys (AAP) debacle in the Delhi municipal corporation polls. He said, Instead of working for Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal started thinking about capturing power in Goa and Punjab. There was no need for him to hurry about that. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was headed for a clean sweep and set to retain the 3 municipal corporations for the third term in a row.

Bharatiya Janata Party crossed the halfway mark of 136 to win a majority in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress finished on 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. Social activist Anna Hazare has been critical of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Kejriwal on several occasions in the past. Both of them were part of the core team of Corruption campaign in 2012 that spearheaded the India against Corruption.

Hazare has highlighted some the best points regarding political power. He said-“once you sit on a chair, you lose your power of thinking”. According to him, people gave enough opportunity to Kejriwal to prove his positive thinking about the improvement of Delhi. “People gave him enough opportunity to turn the capital into a model state but he failed to prove that”, he said. “Instead of working for his state, he started thinking about the power in Goa and Punjab, which proved his immaturity”. There was no need for hurry but he didn’t realize that, which was the main negative point for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. He didn’t realize but people realized that it is power in his mind and it is not the country or the society.

Anna Hazare also rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s charge regarding tampering of electronic voting machines (EVM) and said that in reality, the gap between the Aaam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders’ words and deeds eroded public faith in them. He also added, “The deeds of AAP were not in accordance with their words — that is why this erosion of public faith. AAP leaders are talking of introspection, but they should have done it earlier. What is its use now?”

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Alka Lamba has also offered to resign from her post taking responsibilities of the losses suffered in the 2017 MCD election. On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a resignation from Delhi CM Mr. Kejriwal. BJP chief of Delhi, Manoj Tiwari said Kejriwal should take all the responsibilities for Aam Aadmi Party’s defeat and step down in the election.

MP and senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy went a step ahead and stated that a fresh election should be ordered by the President and he should dismiss the Delhi government. Total 272 wards are there in three Delhi MCDs, out of which, two wards’ election were postponed because of the death of candidates. The voting took place on 23rd April and almost 53 percent of the electorate cast their vote.
