A leader of the militant group Islamic State (IS) has been killed in an attack by US military elites. The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at the Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad. IS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qureshi was killed in that operation. This was stated by US President Joe Biden on Thursday.

Earlier, IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in the same area. A few days after his death, Qureshi took over the responsibility of IS. Recently, IS has risen in Syria as well as in Afghanistan. In north-western Syria, they carried out a series of terrorist attacks. In the last month, IS seized a prison in Syria. Qureshi was behind the attacks. His name in the organization was Amir Mohammad Syed Abdal-Rahman Al-Moula.

The U.S. military says a car bomb had exploded at the Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad. The bomber struck shortly afternoon in front of a U.S. military base. The blast also killed several members of Qureshi’s family, including women and children. In all, 13 people died, including six children and four women.

According to eyewitnesses, the US elite forces launched an operation with helicopters. The militants began firing as soon as US elite troops arrived at Qureshi’s address. The exchange of fire between the two sides lasted for two hours.
