The United States has issued a stern warning to Russia against gathering troops on the Ukrainian border. Washington says Moscow has to choose between dialogue and conflict. The United States has issued a warning at a time when international diplomacy with Ukraine is at a critical juncture.
Senior Russian and US diplomats and military officials sat down for a dinner in Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday. Today was the dinner before the formal discussion on Monday. The discussion will be about Moscow’s demand. The draft agreement was signed with NATO and the United States last month. Many of these are hard for the United States to accept. Because one of them is that Ukraine can never be a member of NATO.
Russia’s chief deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, called yesterday’s dinner a “miracle.” The dinner was held at the residence of the US Ambassador in Geneva. “The discussion was complicated,” Ryabkov said. He also mentioned, “But it has worked. We have looked at the issues that will be discussed in the future. I think tomorrow (today) we will not waste time. I never give up hope. I always have hope”.
