The Modi government wants to take ‘tough’ and ‘exemplary’ steps to ensure that the incident of PM’s convoy getting stuck in Punjab is not repeated in any other state in the future. Like everyone else, the IAS and IPS officers responsible for the incident should be severely punished and exemplary action should be taken against the state government.
The message needs to go to the state administration that ensuring the security of the country’s prime minister falls within the state’s constitutional responsibility. After the meeting, a member of the Union Cabinet said, “It is the responsibility of the central government to ensure that each state government abides by the constitution.” Articles 355 and 356 of the constitution give the center power in this regard. ”
No decision has yet been made on what action will be taken. A case has been filed in the Supreme Court today seeking an inquiry into the Punjab incident under the supervision of the Supreme Court, seeking suspension of the Punjab Chief Secretary and DGP. The case will be heard tomorrow. The Modi government wants to see what steps the Supreme Court takes in this regard before doing anything on its own.
