The Inspector General of the Justice Department is likely to condemn former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as part of its probe into the bureau’s conduct in handling Hillary Clinton’s email inquiry. McCabe, who has been on the receiving end of President Donald Trump’s fury time and again resigned from the bureau in January 2018. He will retire late this month after the tenure of more than 20 years in the FBI. Andrew also served as the acting director of the FBI for several months last year after Trump fired their director James Comey in May 2017.
According to an anonymous source, criticisms of McCabe are expected to be in connection with the manner in which the FBI disclosed information to the media and an inquiry into whether the right procedure was followed in the release of Hillary Clinton’s information. The spokespeople of the FBI and Department of Justice, as well as the Inspector General, refused to comment regarding the matter on Thursday evening. McCabe too did not comment.
Expectations from the DOJ Report
The watchdog report that was initiated last year and set to be concluded in a few weeks is eagerly anticipated in Washington. It is expected to shine a new light on the dispute concerning how officers in law enforcement handled their investigations into Hillary Clinton while a presidential candidate in 2016 and Donald Trump’s successful campaign.
Despite the ongoing criticisms by the President and the Republicans, the anticipated report will be released. The report may increase censure the bureau receives stating that it is antagonistic and politically slanted towards the GOP. Trump has tirelessly criticized Comey after firing him leading to the beginning of an investigation into the matter. The report’s release comes at a time when the White House is at odds with the new director Christopher Wray following the unveiling of the Republican memo regarding ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. The memo was developed from classified data.
The inspector general announced the commencement of an inquiry into the bureau’s conduct while investigating Hillary Clinton email claims. The investigation was concluded months earlier with no charges brought against her. The report includes apparent leaks to the media while Clinton was being investigated. It also includes Comey’s decision to publically announce the FBI’s recommendation that Clinton faces no charges.
