The White House on Friday was on lockdown for about an hour following a passenger vehicle which tried to ram its way through the barriers. The White House was on lockdown to determine the specs on the attempted breach into the compound. The breach attempt took place on the southeast side of the complex close to the Old Executive Office Building.
Local media in the area claimed that the assailant Jessica had a weapon while she drove through the barrier. Reports from the US Secret Service, the security contingent manning the barrier did not disclose whether the attacker had a concealed weapon with her.
Report from the Secret Service
The Secret Service is tasked with protecting the President inside and outside the White House. The Service tweeted on Friday that the vehicle Jessica was driving did not breach the barrier of the White House complex. The agency added that no shots were fired in trying to subdue the perpetrator and that no one was injured including the servicemen at the barrier.
More information disclosed by the agency revealed that the 35-year-old female was immediately detained after the incident. Jessica hails from La Vergne, Tennessee and is a common offender as they have had previous encounters with her near the White House. Her encounters have led to her numerous arrests for various criminal charges.
It is in a different report from the Metropolitan Police Department acquired by Washington’s WTTG-TV that revealed the woman to be Jessica Ford and that she yielded a pistol while behind the steering wheel.
Reports from the Secret Service asserted that the woman was charged with different counts of criminal charges and handed over to the District of Columbia police department.
Analysis of the Attempted Breach
It is obvious that the breach was not serious because it’s common knowledge that one cannot bypass the barriers and access the White House compound. If it was a credible attack, then there would have been shots fired or a gun exchange between the perpetrators and the Secret Service men at the barrier.
What is evident is that Jessica has been arrested severally in the location implying that she may be an activist. The possible explanation of her actions may be in line with what has been going on. Americans have been demonstrating to pressure the government to reform gun control laws to be stricter following the Florida high school shooting that happened last week. If Jessica was yielding a pistol, maybe, she wanted to show how easy it was to own a gun and what danger it poses.
Her real intentions may not have been to attack the White House.
