Former Vice President of the United States Joe Biden is making his way toward a potential presidential run in 2020. Biden even mentioned the possibility recently while speaking at a gathering of longtime foreign policy aides.
Biden, while at his newly opened office that just steps away from the US Capitol, started a planning meeting for the new diplomacy center by talking about a likely 2020 presidential candidacy. He said that he was keeping an open mind about a 2020 run because it is a real possibility. He made it clear that he had not made a decision and did not need to yet, according to some attendees of the meeting or those who were briefed on the meeting.
The former vice president also expressed interest in bringing the people in attendance onto his team if he chooses to embark on a campaign. According to the attendees who were interviewed by ABC News, Biden also gave the people in the room an out: there would be no bad blood if anyone decided that they were satisfied in their current roles outside the government.
The world of politics has often tried to game out Mr. Joe Biden’s plan for 2020. Besides, he was so close to running in the last election only to see President Trump get a victory that most Democrats plainly believe would not have occurred had he, instead of Hillary Clinton, been the party’s nominee. A number of people have shown confidence in Biden’s chances in 2020’s presidential election, saying that if no strong Democratic candidate surfaces within the next year or two, Biden would be strongly compelled to run.
Biden has been a presidential candidate twice before. If elected in 2020, he would be 78 on Inauguration Day, a matter of concern to some Democrats even though he is only slightly older than President Trump. One of the possibilities that Biden’s longtime advisors came up with is that Biden could announce that he would serve for only one term and clear the path for his running mate to lead in 2024. This would likely set the Democrats up for a 12-year White House stretch.
After Biden’s short talk regarding his 2020 deliberations, he went ahead to discuss alongside foreign policy staffers the 2018 agenda for the newly opened Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.
Biden, in a recent NBC News interview, said that he would decide on running in 2020 based on whether it would be the right thing to do.
