Another latest ceasefire violation happened just a day after firing at the border in which three Army jawans and one Major were killed by Pakistani Forces. This unfortunate incident happened in the Keri Sector of the Rajouri district. According to a military official, the Pakistani rangers started firing at the Jawans as well as civilians in Krishna Ghati and Mankote sector. The firing happened along the Line of Control in the Poonch district in Jammu Kashmir.
The Pakistani Rangers opened fire at the forward Indian military posts and villages near the border in an unprovoked incident. There was a calm in the last few days and all of a sudden Pakistani troop started indiscriminate firing after which Indian forces also retaliated. According to a report, the firing started at the Mankote sector at around 5:30 pm and at the Krishna Ghati at around 5:00 pm. The firing continued till one hour at both places.
The Pakistani troops started the firing around 12:00 pm noon and they were using mortars and small arms in the firing. After the first volley of firing, the Indiana side retaliated strongly and the firing continued in the Poonch sector till evening. It is not the first time that the Pakistani side has violated the ceasefire agreement near the Line of Control.
In the fire exchange, there have been zero causalities, according to a report. This incident happened just a day after the Pakistani troops killed three Jawans and an Army Major. With 881 ceasefire violations, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the highest number of ceasefire violation at the Line of Control in past 7 years. These fire exchanges have resulted in the death of 34 personnel in total.
According to some reports, Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement along the LoC more than 710 times. This data was collected until December 10 last year. Along the International Border(IB), Pakistan has violated ceasefire for more than 100 times till December last year.
India and Pakistan had signed the agreement leading to a truce in November 2003. This came into force for the areas including LoC, IB and Actual Ground Position Line. BB Vyas, Chief Secretary J&K and S P Vaid, DGP visited the families of those who were killed during the fire. They met the border migrants and held a meeting with the local officials regarding the relief measures being provided to the migrants.
This year, thousands of border residents were forced to leave their house due to the indiscriminate firing by the Pakistani troops along the LoC and International Border in Poonch and Rajouri districts. In Jammu and Kashmir, Kathua and Samba districts are the most influenced by the intense shelling. 13 killed and more than 70 have been injured so far.
Officials from both sides held a flag meeting in Jammu during which, India raised its voice against the inappropriate firings by the Pakistani troops. India asserted that these provocative actions will not be spared unanswered.
