While tweeting from his Palm Beach Resort in Florida, the President of the United States, Donald Trump said that the Republican memo vindicates him in the investigation into links between him and Russia that may have aided his election in 2016.

The Republican memo is the highlight of America’s politics for the past week and is likely to go on this week. It began with the unveiling of doubts that the memo contained proof the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Justice Department may have improperly used surveillance tools with biases against Trump. Republicans in the House Intelligence Committee voted to have the memo declassified and revealed to the public. Trump agreed to the vote and even released the memo with no redaction amid warnings against it by the FBI and the Justice Department.

Propagations from the Memo Release

Apart from Trump claiming that the memo vindicates him, a possible turn of events could justify that pro-Trump Republicans will use the vindication claim to get the president acquitted from the investigations. The Russian probe is a looming threat to Trump’s presidency and the sooner he escapes it, the better for his tenure.

Democrats introduced an angle to the Republican’s quest to have the memo released. They are unsatisfied with the release because it mischaracterizes sensitive information about the investigation with an objective to undermine Robert Mueller’s Russia involvement probe. Jerrod Nadler of the House Judiciary Committee and a Democrat implied that the memo is a broader propaganda initiative by the Republicans to disgrace, incapacitate and defeat the Russia Investigations.

The President’s keen embrace of the controversial memo also beckoned speculation on his desired move towards the Russian Probe. The memo findings could be used by Trump to justify firing the special counsel headed by Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney who oversees Mueller. The speculations come off the backdrop of efforts by the Democrats to have the house formulate a proposal to protect Robert Mueller against being fired.

Opinions from Parties

Despite the Democrat’s opposition to the matter, a small group of Republicans was against Trump’s move to release the memo. Ohio’s Governor, John Kasich said that the move was of great disservice to America. Kasich is a Republican who was against Trump’s nomination to the presidential race.

It is evident that if dismissing Mueller or Rosenstein is considered, it may trigger a political firestorm similar to when former FBI Director James Comey was fired last year.
