This Saturday, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Advantage Assam – Global Investors’ Summit in Guwahati. Assam is hosting its first global summit starting Saturday. This is in a bid to showcase its manufacturing opportunities and geostrategic advantages to both foreign and domestic investors.  The summit aims at highlighting Assam’s geostrategic advantages and core competencies in various sectors as well as the policy initiatives taken by the state government.

There are a number of Union Ministers that will be present for the proceedings including Kiren Rijiju, Smriti Irani, Suresh Prabhu, and Nitin Gadkari. The summit will be held for two days. It will see the presence of over two thousand domestic and international industry owners and representatives. This summit will catapult Assam as India’s expressway to ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Also In attendance will be foreign delegations from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

Advantage Assam – Global Investors’ Summit will be the greatest ever investment promotion and facilitation initiative by the Assam government. The summit will display all opportunities offered by the state mainly on export-oriented manufacturing and services.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told PTI that 4500 delegates have registered for participation in the summit, with delegates from 16 countries. He added that the Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay had already arrived and industrialists such as Mukesh Ambani and Ratan Tata were expected to attend.

The chief minister reported that PM Narendra Modi’s special focus for the development of Northeast India as well as his initiatives for the region will be the foundation for the success of the summit. The sectors of focus include agriculture and food processing, port township and riverfront development, inland water transport, organic cultivation and bamboo, handloom, textile, and handicrafts.

The government is playing a critical role towards achieving the initiatives of the Assam Global Investors’ summit. In its part, it is offering 160 square kilometers industrial corridor to make it easier for business persons to purchase land and establish business firms free of land controversial issues. The government will also allot new land to develop new industrial estates, and will also provide labor skills and technical and industry oriented courses in colleges.  It assures to strengthen the fundamentals of the business ecosystem in areas like road infrastructure, power distribution and common facilities in industrial estates.
