Vice President of the United States Mike Pence told Republicans that they will make history again. He was speaking to the GOP members in a party meeting on Wednesday at the GOP congressional retreat held in West Virginia. He commented that the party would make history again this year by defying “conventional wisdom” again and continuing to hold the majority seat in Congress.
The Vice President referred to conventional wisdom which currently holds that the upcoming midterms are going to be rough for the GOP (Grand Old Party). He added that President Trump has a different sentiment for conventional wisdom. He continued to emphasize his point by saying that in 2016, conventional wisdom said that Hillary Clinton was going to be elected President of the United States of America.
Pence stated that despite conventional wisdom, the GOP made history in 2016, and they were going to continue to make history in 2018. He said that they would do this through the reelection of Republicans in the House as well as in the Senate.
Feats of rough midterm elections began to surface in the recent months. Most of the panic has been seen in the Republican Party amid a wave of retirements. South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy on Wednesday announced that he would not be running for reelection in 2018. He announced this on Wednesday. Trey Gowdy is the latest Republican to announce pulling out of the race. Despite this development, GOP leaders attending the congressional retreat insisted that the Republican prospects are looking in their favor since the recently passed tax changes.
VP Mike Pence also took a shot at House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), saying that she was “out of touch with the American people.” He said that before the tax cut was voted on, he had heard that she predicted economic Armageddon. He added that worse than that after the tax cut passes, three million Americans receive another thousand dollars, and Nancy Pelosi actually likened that to “crumbs.”
After the remark, Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi’s office said that the vice president had quoted the House Minority leader out of context. Drew Hammill added that in doing so, it wouldn’t change the fact that 83 percent of benefit under the GOP Tax Scam goes out to the huge corporations and the wealthy. He said that Pence is proudly flaunting a tax hike inflicted on 86 million middle-class families, one that is seeing hundreds of billions flowing to corporate America on the backs of these hard-working families.
