Pakistan Sends For ‘Forensic Tests’ Kulbhushan’s Wife’s Shoes. The authority seeks to determine if the shoes contain any suspicious foreign object. A section of media reported so on Wednesday. The authority seeks to establish whether the “foreign body” in the footwear was a chip or a camera. This is according to Pakistani foreign office spokesman Mohammad Faisal. He was quoted by the Pakistani press, Pakistan Today.
In a separate story carried in the Dawn, Mr. Faisal confirmed the detection of the “metallic object”. Security officials retained the shoes before she met the Indian death row prisoner. The meeting took place in Islamabad at the foreign office.
The official gave her back all belongings with exception of the shoes. These included jewelry according to Faisal. But, Faisal reiterates that the authority gave Jadhav’s wife an alternative pair of shoes to put on. This was after confiscation of her shoes.
In its statement, the foreign office admitted the presence of “something” in the shoes. But it made no reference to the “metallic object”. Through a statement, the Pakistani authority dismissed the harassment claims. The authority termed the accusation as “baseless”. It noted that Jadhav’s wife shoes were held for security reasons. It had “something”.
According to India, the action was farfetched. The Pakistani authority confiscated the Jadhav’s mother bindi, mangal sutra, and bangles. This was before she even met Jadhav. This disregarded the religious and cultural values of the family. All these were done under the pretext of security. It was unwarranted, lamented India’s government.
The Pakistanis foreign office reiterated that it does not intend to trade accusations with India. What is termed as “meaningless battle of words”. It rejected India’s inept allegations in the Jadhav’s meeting saga. India’s allegation and twists to the visit come 24 hrs later. Pakistanis authority asserts that Commander Jadhav is a self-confessed terrorist and spy. He was convicted of his crimes. It refuted the Indian’s allegation.
It added that India would have raised its allegations via relevant diplomatic channels. This would have been done by India’s Deputy High Commissioner for Pakistan in full glare of the media at a safer distance as proposed by India. In short, India did not take the issue seriously. The Pakistanis authority released the pictures of the controversial meeting. During the meeting, Commander Jadhav had sat behind a glass panel. The meeting took place on 25th December Jadhav’s wife and mother was on the opposite side. The meeting lasted 40 minutes and took place via the intercom. It appears that the meeting could have been videotaped.
Commander Jadhav was accused by Pakistanis authority of spying for India. This is an accusation that India denies. He was captured in March 2016 and sentenced to death by Pakistanis marshals’ court. According to New Delhi, the Pakistanis authority kidnapped Jadhav in Iran. He was later brought to Iran. It asserts that Jadhav had legitimate undertakings in Iran. India sought the help of International Court of Justice to have Jadhav released. In May, the Court ordered Pakistan to postpone his execution.
