Today two senior police officers have been suspended by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath due to their ineffective handling of the critical situation. Superintendent of Police Mr. Dubey and District Magistrate NP Singh were suspended by the state government, as they were seen to have not handled the situation correctly and effectively. On Wednesday, the Deputy Inspector General Mr. JK Shahi was also transferred later. There have been several clashes occurred in Saharanpur in between Rajputs and Dalits. The government of UP decided to suspend mobile internet service to stop spreading of the violent news through social media. But yesterday’s event was really violent and action of Dg and SP proved the ineffectiveness of UP police.
Yesterday, a Dalit man was killed and more than 20 people were injured in the violence of caste clashes after BSP Chief Mayawati held a rally in Shabbirpur, a village where one person had died in the caste clashes earlier this month.
CM Mr. Yogi Adityanath said that really a strong action has been taken against those persons who are responsible for the violence in Saharanpur and appealed for calm and he also said that people should not pay any attention to inflammatory speeches and help maintain peace. CM Yogi said that some elements are not able to digest the good work being done by the government of Uttar Pradesh and trying to disturb the culture.
The Saharanpur area and Shabbirpur village has been tensed since 5th May when the members of the Rajputs, Thakurs and Dalit communities clashed over loud music being played during a procession to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap. Yesterday some unidentified people set fire to more than 10 houses belonging to Rajputs in Shabbirpur village ahead of Ms. Mayawati’s arrival. After she left, a sword-wielding mob attacked a vehicle with Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supporters in it. The attackers also fired guns and killed a 24-year-old Dalit man. And four other persons were also injured in the clash.
UP govt. has sent a team of officials led by Home Secretary Mani Prasad Mishra to Saharanpur area. Mr. Mani Prasad Mishra arrived in the town on Tuesday night on a special plane along with 3 senior police officers of the state.
The UP govt. has blamed former Chief Minister and BSP Chief Mayawati’s visit on Tuesday to that Shabbirpur village. According to the UP government, some people are trying to create uneasiness at Saharanpur area. BSP Chief Mayawati must not play case politics and help to maintain harmony. On the other hand, Ms. Mayawati, whose party draws crucial support from Dalits caste, has also accused the UP government of BJP of failing to stop attacks on weaker sections of the society.
There was another similar clash in Uttar Pradesh in 2013 and Mr. Dubey was negatively involved in that case also. That is why UP government has taken the strong decision against him.
