Burdwan Town, Purba Bardhaman District, West Bengal / India - 24.06.2020: Health workers are collecting samples of asymptomatic journalist for COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) test in the initiative of Purba Bardhaman District Health Department.

The pandemic is not over yet. On Wednesday, West Bengal reported its first Omicron Variant case. A 7-year-old boy traveling with his parents from Hyderabad to West Bengal tested positive for the Omicron variant. According to the State Health Department, this is the first case of the new variant in the state.

The official reported that the boy was returning to West Bengal from Abu Dhabi via Hyderabad. However, both his parents tested negative for the virus.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal health department reported 418 fresh cases of coronavirus on Monday. It is said to be 165 less than the previous day. The vaccination drive is proving to be effective as the state is witnessing a lower number of COVID-19 cases. The death toll from this virus stood at 19,610 as of Monday.

According to the officials, recently Kolkata reported 135 fresh COVID-19 cases, the death toll at North 24 Parganas stood at 73. However, 439 people fought the disease and were cured in the last 24 hours. 15,96,482 people recovered in the state so far. The active cases in West Bengal now stand at 7,517.
