In Uttar Pradesh, Congress has released the list of candidates for the first phase of the Assembly polls. The list of 125 candidates includes the mother of the victim of the 2016 Unnao gang rape.

Priyanka Gandhi, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, had earlier said that 40 percent of the candidates in the Assembly polls would be women. Announcing the list of candidates for the first phase on Wednesday, he said, “We have kept our promise.” Among the Congress candidates is Lewis, the wife of former Union Minister Salman Khurshid.
Priyanka went to visit the victim’s family during the Unnao incident. In the end, the case was handed over to the CBI in the face of public outrage. The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment. This move by Priyanka Gandhi can be one of the twisted decisions ever taken by Congress.
