India expresses concern over Ukraine-Russia war “The Security Council met two days ago and discussed the situation,” said TS Thirumurthy, India’s permanent representative to the UN Security Council, at an emergency meeting on Thursday.
We called for a speedy reduction of tensions and for effective and rational diplomacy to address all issues related to the situation. But sadly, there has been no response to recent international efforts to defuse tensions. The agencies concerned did not heed that call. The situation is likely to turn into a major crisis. ”
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced a military operation in Ukraine. In this situation, Tirumurthy expressed concern over the security of the 20,000 Indians remaining there. He also called for an immediate “disqualification” of troops on the Ukrainian border.
The Security Council convened an emergency meeting on Monday night after Putin announced that Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions would be recognized as independent states. There, the interim member, India’s representative Tirumurthy, called for an end to the crisis through talks. “India welcomes the discussions of the group of Russia, Ukraine, and the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) countries in Europe,” he said.
He also said that India was in favor of Normandy-level talks between Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and France. “Constructive diplomacy is the only way out now,” Tirumurthy said. “India welcomes the talks of the bloc.”
