Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien was suspended this time in the winter session. Derek has been accused of “rudeness” while protesting against the move to suspend 12 opposition Rajya Sabha MPs.
The opposition erupted on Tuesday over the suspension of 12 MPs while discussing the Electoral Law Reforms Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Derek allegedly threw the rulebook at the chairperson of the upper house at the time. In a tweet after being suspended, Derek wrote, “Earlier, I was suspended for protesting against the Agriculture Bill. We all know what happened at that time. The BJP has turned Parliament into a farce. I protested against it today. And opposed the Electoral Law Reform Bill. This bill will also be scrapped soon. ’
The Lok Sabha passed the Election Law Reforms Bill on Monday with a proposal to link Aadhaar with voter cards. The bill was discussed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The opposition claims that the bill will violate the fundamental rights of citizens if it becomes law. On the other hand, the government claims that the passage of the bill will make it easier for fake voters to be caught in elections.
