The Commission for the Rearrangement of Seats for Jammu and Kashmir has proposed to increase six assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. All other political parties in the Valley have virtually rejected the commission’s proposal except the BJP. Parties in the Valley alleged that the BJP is actually plotting to grab power in Jammu and Kashmir by increasing seats in Jammu. The number of seats in Hindu-dominated Jammu has been increased keeping in mind that the BJP’s dream is fulfilled.

The commission members met today after February last. The draft resolution said it has been decided to increase six seats in Jammu based on the population pattern. As a result, the number of seats in Jammu will be 43 in the coming days. There is an increase in the number of seats in Kashmir to 47. It has been decided to reserve 7 seats out of the total seats for scheduled castes and nine seats for scheduled castes and nine seats for tribals.

The last seat in Jammu and Kashmir was reconstituted in 1994-95. Nearly 25 years later, Jammu and Kashmir are facing a fresh seat realignment. According to many in politics, those who had won more seats in Kashmir for so long have ruled Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP wants to change that picture. The bjp’s mainstay is in Jammu.

If the BJP gets a majority in that Jammu, the BJP will be able to rule Jammu and Kashmir only based on Hindu votes. The opposition alleged that that is why so many seats have been increased in Jammu in a planned manner.
