Today a CRPF was killed and 2 other Jawans were injured when terrorists opened fire at a CRPF van in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident has occurred near a school in Pantha Chowk, Srinagar, on Saturday. According to a CRPF, Ravideep Sahi, “There were 2-3 militants involved in the attack. A sub-inspector was killed and two were injured. The firing was on our vehicle. After the incident, we have cordoned off the area”.

At around 6:0 pm terrorists opened fire on a team of the 29th Battalion of the CRPF in Srinagar near the Panth Chowk bypass.  The official also said that the CRPF men fired back at the terrorists. As the area was a busy marketplace, the terrorists managed to escape. After the incident, the government has launched a search operation and reinforcements have been rushed to the site to track down the terrorists. Till now no terror outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack. For the past one week, terrorists have intensified their attacks on security forces.

The deceased already has been identified as Mr. Sahib Shukla, sub-inspector of police and the injured person has been identified as Constable Nissar Ahmed. This CRPF personnel were sitting inside their vehicle at the bypass of Pantha Chowk on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Just at that time, terrorists attacked them at around 5:50 pm. And the CRPF personnel also fired back. A constable of Srinagar Police was injured in the foot when his rifle went off accidentally. All the security personnel retaliated to the attack. However, there were no reports of any injuries on the militants’ side. Sources said that the attackers ran towards the school situated near the bypass after the attack. Mr. Sahi said that a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the terrorists and said that it was not a common attack.

And after cordoned off the entire area, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway has also been closed. Sub-inspector Sahib Shukla was rushed to nearby hospital after sustaining bullet wounds, but he succumbed to his injuries. Till now no terror group has claimed the responsibility but sources said Lashkar-e-Taiba can claim responsibility for the attack.

This is not the first time that security persons have been attacked, recently it is happening frequently. Earlier on 16th June, a police party in Hyderpora area of Srinagar was attacked by the militants injuring 2 policemen. On Friday, in Nowhetta, Dy SP Md Ayub Pandit was lynched by a mob outside the Jamia Mosque.

From these incidents, it is very clear that terrorists are more powerful even in small scale also. And it is very unfortunate that security persons are not able to give security even for their own.
