On Friday, the Shri Rajput Karni Sena announced that it would be withdrawing all protests against the controversial film “Padmaavat” directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film was released just recently and received heavy negative criticism from Shri Rajput Karni Sena.

The Rajput caste organization announced its decision, saying that the movie glorifies the boldness of the Rajputs. Yogendra Singh Katar, Mumbai leader of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, on Friday said that under the instructions of the organization’s national president Sukhdev Singh Gogamadi, a couple of members watched the movie in Mumbai on Friday and concluded that the movie, in fact, glorifies the valor and sacrifice of the Rajput people. He said that every Rajput would be proud after watching the film.

In a letter, the organization said that the film did not have an objectionable scene between the Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khilji and Queen Padmini of Mewar that upset the sentiments of the Rajputs. Yogendra Singh Katar in the letter declared that the Karni Sena takes back their protests. The letter also said that the organization would help the administration release the film in Gujarat, Pradesh, Madhya, Rajasthan, as well as across all cinemas in the country.

The Shri Rajput Karni Sena had put up a strong fight against the film. It was demanding a ban on the film, claiming that it “distorts” historical facts, and portrays Queen Padmini in poor light.  In January, the Supreme Court lifted the ban on the film that was imposed by several states; it then instructed the states to ensure its release.

The film Padmaavat was released in cinemas across India on January 25th. The film was initially intended to hit the cinemas on December 1, 2017. It was aired amid tight security and protests from a number of groups, Karni Sena being one of them. Despite the release, some cinema hall owners were resistant to screen the film in the stir of protests being conducted by members of Karni Sena in Gujarat and Haryana. Since the release of Padmvaat, maverick filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s incredible piece has seen big business at the Box Office. This reflects how much the film is adored by fans. The film is also being praised internationally. It stars Deepika Padukone in the titular role of Rani Padmavati while Shahid Kapoor plays her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh. Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji in the movie.
