With the rise of omicron, the government’s scientific advisory groups have been considering a vaccination booster or a third dose to prevent omicron spread. The third dose might be necessary for people who are at high risk, including elderly people. However, the new variant of the COVID 19 virus is not being seen as a reason to rush the decision to get a third dose of vaccination.

According to the news across the world, omicron is only causing some mild diseases. A third dose may not be able to prevent omicron infection. Vaccinations can reduce the intensity of the virus, these cannot prevent the virus from spreading. Therefore, those who have been fully vaccinated may get infected by omicron. However, the infection can cause some mild diseases. Therefore, the concept that the low efficiency of vaccination causes the mild disease is not true.

Anurag Agarwal, the director of CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, claims that boosters may help in preventing omicron spread. In addition, he suggests that high-risk individuals may get priority while receiving the booster. The other high-risk health workers should be next in line to receive the vaccination booster. Agarwal stated that despite high immunity after Delta variant and vaccination, omicron may still affect people.
