Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said all Indians had been evacuated from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. “Our goal now is to get the Indians out of Sumi,” he said on Saturday.
Earlier, in a tweet, Arindam forbade Indian students trapped in Sumi to leave their homes. “The foreign ministry and the Indian embassy are pressuring Russia and Ukraine to create a safe corridor to bring them back,” he wrote.
“There are no more Indians trapped in Kharkiv,” Arindam said in an interview on Saturday. Now our focus is on Sumi. But the big challenge there is the ongoing war and the lack of vehicles. A ceasefire is the best option to bring back the detainees. ”
“Indians have returned to the country on 15 flights in the last 24 hours,” said Arindam. In all, maximum no of people have returned to the country, “he added.” About 13,300 Indians have returned so far. In the next 24 hours, 13 more planes will take off. ”He said 298 students had been evacuated from Pisochin.
