Prime Minister Modi met with Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin to negotiate defense, security, and economic ties as India seeks to manage its relationship with the US. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the agenda for the annual summit on Monday included diplomatic and defense issues.
The two countries have signed a lot of bilateral defense treaties, which includes India’s purchase of more than 600,000 assault rifles from Russia.
The Indian Ministry of Defence called it a “historic” agreement that would replace many issues. The locally manufactured aging rifles will be replaced with a modern weapon which was a long-awaited need of the Indian Army.
This month, India received the long-awaited missile defense system S-400 units from Russia. According to Shringla, who added that supplies would continue. Modi stated during the meeting that the agreements reached would be “advantageous across various sectors.”
“Our cooperation in the space and civil nuclear sectors is also advancing,” Modi said. In addition, the two countries agreed to increase their military technology cooperation for the next decade.
“Our colleagues, foreign and defense ministers, are here; this is the first meeting in this layout,” Putin said in the capital alongside Modi. It means that we will work to advance our ties on the international and military levels.
Putin said that the Russian Govt. felt India was a significant power, an extremely friendly nation, and an old and trusted friend of Russia.
