The Allahabad High Court has decided to hear the public interest litigation filed against the Shahi Mosque in Mathura. The Shahi Mosque is situated next to the Krishna Temple in Mathura. The petitioners said in the petition that the mosque was built in the birthplace of Krishna. At one time there was a Katra Keshabdev temple on the land in that mosque. It was destroyed during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The petition seeks permission to allow Hindus to worship at the mosque on certain days of the week and on Janmashtami as an interim measure. The petitioners have also requested to hand over the rights of the land to the Hindus.

An earlier application in this regard was dismissed on procedural grounds. A bench of High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Prakash Pariyar directed that the court hear the appeal on July 25.
