Trinamool will not contest in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. Party leader Mamata Banerjee will support Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) -led alliance in all constituencies to defeat the BJP. She will also go to the state to campaign for the SP. Akhilesh’s envoy Kiranmoy Nanda made the demand after a meeting with Mamata at Kalighat on Tuesday.

Referring to the BJP’s defeat to the Trinamool leader in the Nilbari battle, he said, “Mamata Banerjee is not just the chief minister, she is not just a Trinamool leader, she is the national face against the BJP in the whole country.”

Kiranmoy also said that Mamata will campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls on February 8. “Akhilesh sought the help of Mamata Banerjee to defeat the BJP,” he said. He claimed that Akhilesh had already talked to Mamata about it.

Kiranmoy said that Mamata and Akhilesh will hold a joint virtual meeting and a press conference at the SP’s office in Lucknow on February 8. At the same time, he said, Mamata-Akhilesh will hold a similar joint virtual meeting and press conference in Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the date of the Varanasi meeting has not been decided yet.
