It was just like a roller-coaster ride. During the result publication of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Asia’s richest civic body, initially, the weight was greater for Shivsena. It looked like Shivsena may run away with a majority for one more time, but at the end of the day, it was almost equal for both the major party Shivsena and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). Ultimately Shivsena has finished on the first spot by winning 84 seats. BJP won 82 seats while Congress with only 31.
The new BJP star, Devendra Fadnavis is the hero of the story and Man of the Match. The moment when Shivsena announced that they are not with the policy of seat-sharing arrangement with the BJP and they wants to fight it alone by breaking the twenty-five years old alliance, the Maharashtra civic body polls assumed larger significance on BJP star, Devendra Fadnavis.
It is a massive 150 percent improvement compared to its last election in 2012 when it had won 31 seats and Shivsena had won in 75. It becomes clear from this result that while Chief of Shivsena, Uddhav Thackeray has been able to hold on to his bastions, the BJP has gained in this game at the expense of Indian National Congress(INC), who has been suffered an enormous erosion of its base this time with 31 seats.
Now the question is that what Uddhav will do to get the chair of the mayor in Brihanmumbai municipal, as his only goal is to be the mayor. After so much gadding also they weren’t able to touch the milestone. Shivsena needed 114 seats out of 227 seats for the majority to hold the chair without any sharing with BJP, but they won 84 seats, which is not sufficient. Will they shake hand with BJP or with their enemy Congress? But a few days ago Shivsena didn’t agree to share seats with BJP also. Then what to do? But Shivsena chief, Uddhav didn’t express any anxiety in Matoshri’s home. “Now we are celebrating our success, till now we haven’t decided anything.” Uddhav Thakrey says.
But BJP minister Nitish Gadkari said that this is the time to shake hands with Shivsena. Both BJP and Shivsena should stretch their hand towards each other for the alliance.
Not only in Mumbai, all over in Maharashtra, BJP is leading in almost all the zone. Maybe it is the post effect of BJP tsunami triggered by Prime Minister Modi in 2014 and another tsunami in November 2016 regarding the ban of Rs500 and Rs1000 notes in India. And the current success of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is also not less than the tsunami of 2014. Almost everywhere in India BJP is getting the taste of success, at least better than before. Although the comparison may appear fatuous at the first glance since it is a general election but it is obvious that there is something positive sign for BJP and it can be the trailer for next election of India in 2019.
