The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s 2022-23 budget proposal was passed in the Lok Sabha. According to the budget proposal presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday, the budget allocation of Jammu and Kashmir for the fiscal year 2022-23 is Rs 1 lakh 12 thousand 950 crores. Of this, Rs 41,335 crore will be spent on various development sectors from April 1 this year.
According to Nirmala, the budget allocation will cost Rs 32,495 crore (29 percent) to pay salaries to government employees. Expenditure on pension 9.60 crores (9 percent). On the other hand, the interest on the loan is Rs 7,426 crore (6 percent). The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to spend Rs 5,000 crore to buy electricity in the current financial year.
China’s infrastructure on the other side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) east of Jammu and Kashmir has long been a source of concern for India. At one time, New Delhi did not deliberately work to develop the region’s infrastructure which to prevent a possible Chinese attack. The strategy was that if the area was left inaccessible, the advance of the Chinese army would be slowed down during a possible attack. But since the second UPA government, the focus has been on infrastructure development in the LAC adjoining areas of undivided Jammu and Kashmir (including Ladakh).
The Centre has long been concerned about infrastructure development in parts of the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to the west. Especially in the villages adjoining the LOC, the Pak army continues to inflict heavy losses due to firing and mortar attacks. Hence, now the center has approved that much budget for J &K.
